If your plans for Valentine’s Day include opening a bottle of something sparkling, then you could choose a Suffolk-produced sparkling wine from Valley Farm Vineyards in Wissett, near Halesworth.
Owners Elaine Heeler and Vanessa Tucker specialise in growing grapes for still and sparkling white wines as well as still and sparkling blush.
An ideal bottle for a special occasion, would be the 2011 vintage sparkling blush ‘Gloriana’ which has been blended from Auxerrois, Pinot Mernier and Pinot Noir grapes to give the wine a “flinty nose with hints of stone fruits and brioche.” It costs £25 a bottle and can be bought at the vineyard.
Elaine and Vanessa also offer holiday accommodation; a self-catering cottage in the heart of the countryside on their eight acre vineyard, which sleeps up to 10 people.
Tours of the vineyard are also available (self-guided for individuals, or guided tours for groups of six or more) which can (should!) be followed by a wine-tasting session.
