Locally Reared Meat
There are some fabulous pork producers within the Waveney Valley, including the popular Friend Farm at Alburgh. Local butchers will be able to advise you on breed, sourcing and traceability of the meat they supply. A wide range of seasonal game is available throughout the year. For those visiting around Christmas picking up a famous Norfolk Black Turkey from Rumburgh Farm or White House Farm near Halesworth will be an extra special treat. Specialising in rare-breed meat direct from their farm, why not try something different at Maisebrook Farm Shop?
East Anglia is barley-growing country, and the Waveney Valley is home to quality breweries using the finest malted barley and wheat. In the picturesque village of Alburgh is the award-winning Grain Brewery, producing a delicious range of beer at their site in a converted dairy. Near Bungay is St. Peter’s Brewery, brewing a range of classic English cask-conditioned ales made from Suffolk malts and with water drawn from their own source within the chalk layer well under the Hall.
Wines and Cider
Wine enthusiasts can enjoy a visit to Valley Farm Vineyards, Flint Vineyard and Chet Valley Vineyard. Visitors can explore on a tour and sample the wines. For alcohol free, try local, traditionally produced apple juice and cider at the Suffolk Apple Juice and Cider Place in the beautiful Illketshall St. Lawrence.
You can pick up some of these delicious treats at the many farm shops and farmers’ markets in the Waveney Valley.
