It won’t be long before the arrival of spring and with it the promise of long, warm days and holidays. It’s never too early to start planning the first short break of the year and what nicer place to start than in Mettingham near Bungay in the Waveney Valley.
At Castle View Vacations there is the option of a self-catering cottage or a glamping holiday in medieval-style tents. There are tents of varying sizes, sleeping between two and eight people. They can be booked individually or if you have a large group of friends or family, the site will accommodate up to 75 people (or 100 if you make use of the overflow tents).
Each tent is furnished to a very high standard with beds, fluffy duvets and armchairs and comes equipped with a wood burner for extra cosiness. Guests can eat al fresco on their own private deck and BBQs are provided. Dogs are welcome and horses can be accommodated too, on this 14 acre site with its lovely view of the castle ruins. Don’t forget to say hello to any farm animals you may happen to meet as you explore; especially the friendly KuneKune pigs and the rather mischievous goats!
Mettingham Castle was founded in 1342 and is a scheduled monument and Grade II listed building, meaning it is of national importance. In 2006 the current owners received a grant from English Heritage to carry out some essential remedial work and today the main parts of it remaining are the flint gatehouse and the barbican and curtain wall of the original manor house. The castle is privately owned and is only open on some days of the year. More information can be found here.
The glamping site is open from Easter to Mid October and more information can be found here.
Castle View Cottage is available all year and sleeps up to five people. More information can be found here.
