The festive season is traditionally a time where it’s all too easy to over-indulge. With turkey-laden tables (and all the trimmings); Christmas pudding laced with brandy butter for dessert; copious cups of tea accompanied by mince pies and Christmas cake; the odd glass of wine or champagne and before you know it, the pounds have crept on and the new year’s resolution to lose it all again is being made.
One way around this annual dilemma is to make the most of the scenic Waveney Valley countryside by donning a pair of walking boots, wrapping up warm and taking a brisk stroll along some of the many footpaths, in between feasting with family and friends.
The Angles Way is a 93 mile route which follows the Norfolk/Suffolk boundary between Thetford and Great Yarmouth. The Waveney Valley part of it, passes through open countryside, broad river valleys, pretty villages and some our ancient market towns. You can view the interactive map here and visit the Angles Way website for more information.
You could try the slightly less ambitions Boudicca Way. Running for 36 miles between Diss and Norwich, the route follows public rights of way and quiet country roads, with many pretty villages along the way.
There are of course many options for much shorter walks too and we have compiled a list of dowloadable pdfs for you to print off. The list includes the long distance walks, but also short walks of just a few miles.
So plenty of options for making a start on that new year’s resolutions list!
